Mother's Day With Lisa Green

From boutique beginnings to global creative, Lisa Green's journey with KOOKAÏ has come full circle. For Mother's Day, we step inside her home for an intimate glimpse into life with her two young children.

Poised yet grounded, Lisa embodies the rhythm of modern motherhood - where considered style and everyday chaos coexist. Having once worked in our Melbourne boutiques and Head Office, her evolution is one we've proudly watched unfold. Now, as a mother, content creator and creative force, she reflects on her time with KOOKAÏ, life at home, personal evolution and style.

You spent time working at Kookai early in your career - How does it feel to reconnect with KOOKAÏ and revisit that chapter now?
It honestly feels so so nice & so surreal. I have such fond memories of working for KOOKAI for 5 years of my life. I initially started as a casual just for a side income as I was starting out (what I thought was going to be my career) as a makeup artist. But throughout my first year I was surprised that I loved working there so much more! So I eventually took on a full time role, managed a few different stores & then ended up in your Melbourne Head Office, before moving to Byron Bay.

When you look back on your time working with KOOKAÏ, what stands out the most about the culture and experience?
Not only did I have the pleasure of working with so many incredible women, but one part I really loved about KOOKAI was that they encouraged their boutique members to work their way up, even into head office roles. Which made working in retail exciting when there was an option to work on more behind the scenes of a fashion business. They valued that the boutique staff knew the customers best, I learnt so much in my time there.

How would you describe your personal style today, and has motherhood influenced the way you dress?
My personal style today is quite polished & classic. But I really do love mixing it up, some days in tailored classic styles and then the next in a soft prairie dress. Motherhood hasn’t changed my style too much, but I’ll be honest there are a few more days spent in activewear! Chasing babies & toddlers around is no joke!

How do you balance feeling polished and stylish with the busy, beautiful chaos of mum life?
I feel so much more productive when I’m wearing a nice outfit & have my make up done! It helps me feel put together, confident & inspired for the day ahead. Some days I do struggle with the chaos, I stare at my wardrobe and can’t come up with one… single… outfit. So I’ve been trying to pre-plan a few outfits for the week and have photos I can reference, for those really busy days. It saves me!

Motherhood is such a transformative journey — what’s one thing it’s taught you about yourself?
It’s taught me that I really love to nurture. It feels so special to put your time into someone other than yourself, to watch them grow, smile & flourish.

What advice would you give to young women just starting their careers, perhaps standing behind a boutique counter today, just like you once did?
I would say to try as many things as possible, especially if you feel a little lost. You will find eventually where you are meant to be & feel most fulfilled. But also, that can also change, we can have many different career paths in our life!

What’s your favourite thing about spending time at home with your children?
They help me to slow down & notice all the little magic moments. I love watching what sparks their joy (which is almost everything), we cook together, play & I watch them roam around our property. I remember this being my dream when I was younger, and now I’m living it, how special is that.

How important is it for you to work with brands that align with your values as a woman, a mother, and a creative?
It’s so important to me! I only work with brands that I would genuinely wear & feel my best in. I only ever want to share the best of the best.

Which pieces from the new collection feel most like "you" — and why?I really love the Oslo open back top & pants. I love a strong but feminine look.
